A restaurant that serves all these very vulnerable people would still be considered “responsible”. No one expects servers to ask you questions about your history of alcoholism or pregnancy, as people would find these questions offensive and intrusive. And yet, all of these risk groups are much more likely to cause alcohol-related problems than people under the age of 21. There is no logical reason to accept questions about our time, but to be offended by more reasonable questions. Raising the legal drinking age to 25 will reduce the number of drunk driving deaths. This is how you save lives and maintain public safety. Transition: In this scheme, I will argue for raising the legal drinking age to twenty-five. The most popular argument used to defend the age of alcohol consumption is that it saves lives. However, this statement is highly questionable. Here`s what actually happened when the age of alcohol consumption was raised to 21: The ban on this age group drinking in bars, restaurants, and other licensed places leads them to drink in unsupervised places like fraternity houses or home parties, where they are more susceptible to excessive alcohol consumption and other dangerous behaviors. Now that I have explained the few reasons why the United States should lower the age of alcohol consumption to 18, I hope it is clear why this would be a good choice for the country. The reason I think it should be reduced is because it would improve the economy, reduce dangerous drinking activities, the number of arrests and I believe that adults should be able to make their own decisions. Here`s an argumentative essay on both: Why the drinking age should be lowered and why the drinking age shouldn`t be lowered.
A U.S. district court ruled in December. 22, 1978, that MLDA 21 is “reasonably linked to a state objective of reducing motorway accidents” and that MLDA 21 resists a constitutional challenge on three important legal issues: (1) alcohol consumption is not a constitutionally guaranteed “fundamental” right, (2) age is not inherently a “suspect” criterion of discrimination (as opposed to race or ethnic origin, For example) and (3) the use of the drinking age to prevent road accidents has a “rational basis” in the available scientific evidence. Maintaining the legal drinking age at 21 is important for the common good. It prevents our roads from becoming more dangerous and reduces the incidence of devastation in schools, colleges and workplaces. This is an important step towards the future of our country, because our young people must not be distracted by alcohol. So, in the interest of a safer society and a prosperous nation; The legal drinking age should not be lowered. In a 2002 meta-study on the legal drinking age and health and social problems, 72% of the studies found no statistically significant association, although it was claimed that lowering the MLDA to 18 would increase suicides and criminal activity among adolescents. U.S. law prohibits anyone under the age of 21 from buying, selling, or consuming alcohol.
This law was implemented by various states in the 1980s after studies found a direct link between a lower drinking age and crimes such as drunk driving and alcohol among teenagers. Although the demand for lowering the age of alcohol consumption has increased, it is a fact that a low age of alcohol consumption increases the rate of crime under the influence of alcohol, increases school dropout and could destroy the bright future of an entire generation. (Thesis Statement) The illegal sale of alcoholic beverages has resulted in huge economic losses for the government and retailers. A survey conducted by the CDC found that 11% of all alcohol is consumed by the population under the age of 21; All of this is sold without government approval. The profits made are not taxed and go to the black market. Hundreds of millions of dollars that might otherwise have been spent on people`s well-being go to the smallpox of illegal traders. Lowering the legal drinking age could put an end to this problem. Subject: Increase in the age of alcohol consumption to 25 years. General purpose: The overall objective of this plan is to make the case for raising the age of alcohol consumption to 25 years. First, lowering the age of alcohol consumption would improve the economy. If more people could drink legally, there would be an increase in income.
There would be more alcohol purchases in licensed stores and businesses. An increase in alcohol purchases in bars, clubs and restaurants. More people would be inclined to do more activities that are not directly related to alcohol consumption. For example, festivals, concerts and sporting events. There would also be an increase in alcohol production. New jobs would be created for depreciation, brewing and distribution of alcohol. There would be an increase in incomes in all sectors of the economy. Once you are 18, you are legally an adult.
This freedom comes with many responsibilities. They can enter into legal contracts, be tried as adults and sent to an adult prison, and raise or adopt children. Eighteen-year-olds work in a number of jobs where the lives of other people are at stake, such as paramedics or firefighters. And, of course, they take on one of the most dangerous jobs in the world: active military service. Body The legal age for alcohol consumption should be raised according to the percentage of drunken accidents with death in which the drunk driver is between twenty-one and twenty-four years old. Twenty-one to twenty-four years represent thirty-four percent of all drunk drivers involved in fatal crashes in the United States. Young people are more likely than older people to be involved in fatal accidents at all blood alcohol levels. Young drivers are more sensitive to the effects of alcohol. Young drivers are more inexperienced drivers.
The higher the driver`s blood alcohol level, the more likely it is that the driver will cause a fatal accident. Raising the age of alcohol consumption has been shown to reduce alcohol consumption among people who can drink legally. Young people are more likely to drink. Transition: It is important to consider security reasons for other privileges when considering increasing the legal limit to twenty-five for security reasons. Many argue that lowering the age of alcohol consumption will lead to a rapid increase in cases of alcohol and driving. It`s a common perception that “underage drinkers are more likely to drive under the influence of alcohol, but this is nothing more than a myth. A study conducted by a team led by Peter Asch and David Levy dispelled this misunderstanding. In this survey, it was found that raising the age of alcohol consumption only transferred cases of alcohol and car from the 18-20 age group to the 21-24 age group.
This implies that it is not minor drinkers, but inexperienced drinkers who drink and drive. 100 of the 102 analyses (98%) of a meta-study on the legal age of alcohol and road accidents showed a higher legal age of alcohol consumption, which is associated with lower rates of road accidents. In the 30 years since the introduction of MLDA 21, the number of road deaths has decreased by one-third. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that mlda 21 saved 31,417 lives between 1975 and 2016. The main reason for maintaining the legal drinking age at twenty-one is the impact it has on the health of the consumer. Alcohol is very harmful to our body when used in large proportions. But even used in small proportions, it can still harm the body, but not so much and not so fast. If someone were to drink alcohol excessively, the user has a very good chance of contracting alcohol poisoning, which could lead to the death of that person.
Alcohol is very harmful to many, if not all, organs. According to Albert S. Whiting, “There is a lot of evidence that even a small amount of alcohol can be very harmful to the heart.” Whiting also reported that “alcohol has a direct effect on heart muscle cells” (“Alcohol consumption is harmful”). When you drink alcohol, it speeds up the heart rate because you are dehydrated by the body and get rid of the poison that alcohol contains. The acceleration of the heart rate can be very bad for anyone. One long-term effect alcohol can have on the heart is that it “impacts risk factors for coronary heart disease” (Whiting). Because alcohol spreads through all bloodstreams, it passes through all organs. The reason why someone`s memory is blurred when using this substance would be because it affects the brain that controls all parts of the body. “The organ most sensitive to alcohol is the brain.
Alcohol destroys brain cells which, unlike blood cells that it also destroys, are irreplaceable. [Also on] Reaction times are slowed down and their muscle coordination is less effective” (Whiting). In the United States, 31% of road deaths are associated with alcohol. This percentage is higher than in many countries with a drinking age below 21, such as France (29%), the United Kingdom (16%), Germany (9%), China (4%) and Israel (3%). Although the United States increased the MLDA to 21 in 1984, its rate of traffic accidents and fatalities declined less in the 1980s than in European countries with a minimum legal drinking age below 21.
